2025 Test Day – Hypercar

The usual (for Le Mans) suspects are at the top, but how are preparations going.

Lappery

BMW are often at the top or near the two of laps in any practicing. That is with one car.

#009 Aston Martin, #20 BMW, and #38 Cadillac lost some running in the second session. All would have been near the top of the laps completed in td1.

Sheldon van der Linde (#20) went off at Porsche Curves. It had an oil leak and no more running1.

This caused one of three red flags which disrupted running.

Lap Times

As ofter happens #83 doesn’t hang around in practicing. Although it was #8 that set the fastest.

Approach of the top five.

It started with installation laps for each driver on the dirty circuit. Right at the end they gave it to Ye for a go, but this was curtailed by the final red. Ye’s best lap in this last practice run was 0.1s off Kubica’s best and was disqualified for track limits.

Toyota’s best was a lap straight out of the pits in td2. Hartley had the leys for that one. Towards the end it set a quick first sector right at the end when the red flag came out, as did #51…

#51 put in a stonker at the beginning of td2, unlike the Toyota is stayed out for a long run. The damage being done in the third sector particularly.

#36 was building speed all the time. Quick Mick setting the fastest toward the end of td2. There was more than one quick lap in this run too.

#6 was the top Porsche in the averages. No particularly long spells for this car. It was similar for the sister car #5.

Sectors

Ferrari looking strong in all sectors. A little bit of a mix behind them.

Cadillac are strong in these corners.

Low Speed Acceleration Sectors

Aston Martin at the top! Wooo! These are short sectors.

Long Straights

Porsche features high up in this one. BMW not so much, but as shown below they had the top speed, but maybe not so good in the braking zones that are also included in some of these.

Speed Trap

In an attempt to remove the fastest tow supported speed trap numbers the averages from Top 10 to Top 30 laps. Obviously not perfect, but better than including a lot of laps, or including those super good laps.

Below gives an indication of the best tow laps and when the speeds started to drop off. So top 10 to 30 was used.
