COTA Friday Practice

A quick look at Practice Performance.

Hypercar

The average lap times

#83, has as often been the case doesn’t hold back as much in practice. Kubica can’t help himself? Sensible practice laps going through a program? As long as I can nail it!

Talking of nailing it, #15 had the fastest time here, but that lap was disqualified. It is a good reminder that due to the laziness of the author these laps are included. They give a better representation, or something…

Ranked by Top 20.

#83 shows a pretty normal approach of a qualifying practice at the beginning of fp2.

#12 did five less laps than #83 and less stops. This is particularly noticeable in fp2.

#15 had a (disqualified) qualifying run, but had to get back to race stint testing after its lack of running in fp1.

The fastest laps generally come early in fp2, showing that this is the standard time to practice your qualifying.

Top Speed

Aston winning the averages

Lappery

Most getting in a similar number of laps. #15 tried its best to make up for fp1.

Sectors

Peugeot timing screen photo time.

LMGT3

The old Mercedes to the top.

Unlike Hypercar there is more of a spread about then fastest laps are set, but the top times are set early in fp2. Are these the teams putting more weight into qualifying?

#88 generally showing improvement through practice, with an early fp2 qualifying practice run.

Unlike Corvette who spread it around and are more influenced by the driver rating qualifying rules.

Speed Trap

As is often the case, Ford and Lexus up at the top.

Lappery

#92 Manthey Porsche leads the way as it did in Interlagos practice. #10 Aston didn’t get out in fp2 after its crash, with Daily Sportscar reporting it needed chassis repairs1.
