Long Beach Practice Sessions

Update after the second and last practice session.

  • A short race this weekend, on a double bill with Indycar.
  • GTP and GTD only1.
  • Just two practice sessions (9am, 1pm) and qualifying (5:10pm) on Friday.
  • 100 minute race on Saturday (2:05pm).
  • 1.968 mile street circuit2

GTP Laps completed

Aston Martin continues the trend of fewer practice laps compared to others. #85 Porsche that leads the way. BMW continue their trend of putting in the miles, but relative to others this was more in the first session

GTP Lap Times

The BMWs were fastest with #24 leading the way. Porsche and Cadillac didn’t get the fastest in, but matches BMW once we get into the decent running. Looking at the very fastest there is an indication that some got a good qualifying run in and some didn’t, or there car have less of a difference between qualifying and race.

All the laptimes for all the cars

Lap times are very practice like with little inconsistency as they find their way round this street course. There wasn’t much time to

Why doesn’t Aston Martin do as many laps as others in practice? In Practice 1 only Gunn had a go and slowly worked down to his fastest towards the end. De Angelis got a few laps in practice 2. Expect Gunn to get the longer time behind the wheel in the 100 minute race. Lots of very short stints for Aston (and quite a lot of the others).

GTP Sector Times

It is super close, but Cadillac stole the first 2 sectors, BMW the third.

Aston Martin is consistent across all the sectors.

GTD Laps completed

Problems for a few of the cars, but it is pretty consistent with most cars 32 or 33 laps! #32 Mercedes makes an effort to get in the most laps.

GTD Lap Times

#36 ended up fastest after Wickens set a couple of purples on consecutive laps. Wonderful.

Milner got in some laps towards the end with that cars longest stint. However, it will lose it’s fastest lap in qualifying after it caused a red flag:

GTD Sector Times

Interesting that the Corvette #36 is a little off in pace in S1, but leads in S2 and S3.

After only two practice sessions we now move into the competitive sessions.
