We are seeing a sort of reset. Lots of new cars / significant development, BoP differences have narrowed almost as if the setters are back to the start. It looks very 2023.
There are also hints that some of the new car philosophies have been noted, especially with the high-speed power positioning.
We are early days with some of these changes. We could see this develop over the year and this is always complicated by Daytona and Sebring opening the year.
At the moment this is assumed to be the BoP for the race. Although this has changed from ROAR to race before as the organizers try things.
Power to Weight
As it is a new year and Daytona let’s look at the long term.
We saw minimal differences in 2023, the range grew in 2024, and was even more extreme in 2025. Into 2026 this has seen a reset. We have lots of car development over the off season, with some notable changes in philosophy within the ruleset boundaries. This has been coupled with aero retesting1.

Aston Martin, after a couple of strong performances are becoming established and the BoP is reflecting that.
Weight
The narrowing is in both weight and power. Aston Martin has the most favorable BoP adjustments, but the others have been able to move closer to it’s low limit weight.

Power
Look at that! We are back to 2023 power spreads. Are we seeing a bit of a reset as all the cars have seen big changes leading the rule makers to go back to square one with their setting? Expect this to development as more data becomes available with the new cars.

High Speed Power
Compared to the Daytona test in November the High Speed Power has a much broader variation. The spread returns to what we have seen before, but there is a different order. This suggests that the organizers were gathering data in the test and now reacting to the new wind tunnel data and that data.

Aston Martin return to the top of the power rankings here. The biggest change from the last 24 and the last race at Petit is for Cadillac – their car has taken change of direction. There is a similar look for Acura, but not quite so dramatic.
Replenishment Rate
A full 100% energy stop is still 40 seconds.
