Practice Lappery

Flying Lizard #81 Porsche dominated the build-up in terms of laps completed.

Many cars had limited running in some sessions. In fp1 Roger Wills, driving CRS Racing #62 Ferrari F430 GT2, hit the barrier in the Porsche Curves and damaged the car’s front-left suspension and radiator. JMB #83 Ferrari was light on free practice laps too. It’s problems continued into q1 with more transmission problems limited its running.

Qualifying started badly for AF Corse #61 Ferrari, which would go on to set pole in q3, as it only completed only two laps in q1. #68 Ford completed only one!

Robertson #62 Ford had limited running in q1, and spun in q2 at the Ford chicane.

In q2 it was the turn of #50 Corvette and #57 Ferrari to have limited running. Proton #63 Porsche, which had already done enough to get second on the GTE Am grid missed the session entirely.

Some cars ran a lot of laps in warm up, notably #81, #83 and #65 – all still fettling at this late stage.

There is a sizeable gap from pole in GTE-Am to the rest of the class – over 2 seconds! This would put it 14th on the Pro grid in the year old car.

The rest seemed content to get ready for the race. There was a good spread of when qualifying times were set across q1, 2 and 3.

The Gulf #60 Aston Martin went quicker in free practice than it did in warm-up. Krohn #57 Ferrari waited until the warm-up to set its fastest build-up lap! These teams were concentrating on the race.
